Capitol Updates: Committee Assignments & Economic Development

Dear Friend,

As your State Representative, it is both an honor and a pleasure to serve you. I am dedicated to working tirelessly on your behalf and making sure that your voice is heard loud and clear in the capitol of our great state. Keeping you informed about the work we are doing for the betterment of Desoto County and Mississippi is my top priority. I hope this update finds you well, and please do not hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of service to you.

Committee Assignments

I am pleased to share that I have been named to the following committees:

Military Affairs - Vice Chair

Banking and Finance

Constitution

Judiciary B

Public Utilities

Transportation

These assignments will allow me to work on issues and matters that directly affect Desoto County.

- I anticipate the Citizen's Ballot Access Measure will be a top priority in the Constitution Committee. I will work to restore your constitutional right to have measures important to you be placed on the ballot.

- Within the Judiciary Committee, I intend to strengthen penalties for theft and violent crime to combat the wave of criminal activity from Memphis, TN. I will also resource our Law Enforcement Officers so they can protect our communities and school age children while they are in class.

- Transportation and Public Utilities is also critically important for Desoto. We desperately need investments in infrastructure and I'm working tirelessly to ensure we have funding to address these needs.

Project Poppy: Economic Development in North MS

This week, the House convened a special session to vote on Project Poppy, an economic development investment in North Mississippi. The bill aims to achieve the following objectives:

- Capital investment of nearly $2 billion in Marshall County

- Creation of over 2000+ jobs with an average salary of $66K

- Investment in local infrastructure spanning from Desoto to Marshall County.

Consistent with our conservative principles, the bill includes strong clawback provisions that ensure Mississippians receive their investment back if certain quantifiable metrics are not met. Citizens across the state have been looking for investments that would help elevate the state's economic opportunities out of the bottom tier. This bill is the first step towards achieving that goal with common-sense conservation principles. Moreover, It will give Mississippian an opportunity to achieve economic freedom.

Highlights from the District to the Capitol

I had the privilege of welcoming our Police Chiefs to the Mississippi House of Representatives. Our brave men and women who serve and protect our citizens deserve our utmost respect, and I am proud to take the lead on prioritizing support for our law enforcement officers, as well as ensuring the safety of our communities in Desoto County.

I recently attended the Mayor's Ball hosted by Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams and Walls Mayor Kiedron Henderson. The event was organized to support our youth, with a special emphasis on mentoring adolescent boys and girls. I highly appreciate the efforts of our mayors toward developing the next generation of Desoto County. I will look for opportunities to support such initiatives in the future.

I met with Ms. Faye Dillard at the Governor's inaugural celebration. She is a wonderful Mississippian, and I appreciate her contributions to our state.

I recently had a meeting with Mr. Jimmie Smith, who is a member of Concerned Veterans for America (CVA). The main objective of CVA is to safeguard the freedoms and prosperity that veterans and their families have fought to protect. CVA has members from all branches of the military, including veterans who have served in every conflict since World War II. As the Vice-Chairman of Military Affairs, I will defend our veteran communities and fight for their rights.

I met with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Mental health is a growing concern all across our state and we must ensure that when our loved ones are at their lowest points, resources are available to help them get back on their feet. I look forward to working Marsha Jensen and her team on initiative to combat suicides in our communities.

A group of young men had the opportunity to work as pages in the Mississippi House of Representatives this week. They performed exceptionally well and gained valuable knowledge about the legislative process.
