February has been a month of action, advocacy, and engagement at the Mississippi State Capitol! I’ve had the privilege of meeting with incredible individuals, organizations, and leaders who are working hard to improve our communities. From education and healthcare to economic development and defense, I remain committed to ensuring North Mississippi continues to thrive. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from this month:

Legislative Pages – I was honored to have Zoey Washington (DeSoto), Isabelle, and Timothy Anthony (Starkville) serve as my pages this month. If you or someone you know is interested in paging for the Mississippi Legislature, please reach out! It’s a great way for students to get involved in the legislative process.

|
Teen Health MS – I had the pleasure of meeting with students participating in government through Teen Health Mississippi. Their passion for improving the health and well-being of young people is inspiring.
|
|
|
|
Superintendent Cory Uselton Visit – I had an important discussion with DeSoto County Superintendent Cory Uselton about our Schools and the resources needed for student and teacher success. As a strong supporter of education, I will continue to advocate for policies that help our schools excel.
|
|
|
|
Black Pastors United for Education – I met with this dedicated group to discuss faith-based initiatives that can uplift our youth and strengthen our communities.
|
|
|
|
Leadership DeSoto – I had the privilege of meeting with members of Leadership DeSoto, a program that equips future leaders with the knowledge and tools to make a difference in our county.
|
|
|
|
Delta State University – I enjoyed my visit with representatives from Delta State and, of course, their legendary mascot—the Fighting Okra!
|
|
|
|
Southaven High Student, James Johnson Jr. – It was great to meet this outstanding young man. James has a bright future ahead, and I look forward to following his journey!
|
|
|
|
MS Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks – I met with representatives to discuss ways to bolster our outdoor resources and ensure they remain accessible and beneficial for all Mississippians.
|
|
|
|
MS Family Physicians from DeSoto County – Family medicine is the foundation of a healthy Mississippi. I had meaningful conversations about improving access to healthcare and supporting our family doctors.
|
|
|
|
Desoto County Realtors Visit – I was honored to speak with our hardworking realtors about my bill: The Hometown Heroes Home Loan Guaranty Program—an initiative aimed at making homeownership more accessible for our community’s heroes.
|
|
|
|
Disability Awareness Advocacy – I was proud to stand with Jessie Smart and her father Lee Smart as she prayed over the House of Representatives and advocated for Disability Awareness. Jessie is a fierce advocate, and she has my full support!
|
|
|
|
Caterpillar Visit – I had a great meeting with Kathy from Caterpillar about the company’s impact in North Mississippi. Their operation in Corinth plays a major role in our economy, and I appreciate their investment in our state.
|
|
|
|
Mississippi Electrical Cooperatives – I caught up with Michael Bellipanni to discuss how we can continue to provide reliable and affordable electricity to our communities.
|
|
|
|
ICYMI: MS Save Our Service Members Act – I am proud to announce that my bill, The Mississippi Save Our Service Members Act, has passed both the House and Senate! This legislation is a crucial step toward fighting soldier suicide and mental health challenges among our Mississippi heroes. Supporting our veterans and active service members is a responsibility I take seriously, and I will continue this fight.

|
Aerospace & Defense Alliance of Mississippi – I had the honor of speaking at the Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MSET) Aerospace & Defense Summit, where I discussed the future of Mississippi’s defense industry. Mississippi has a major role to play in national security, and I’m committed to ensuring we lead the way in aerospace and defense advancements.

|
MS Army National Guard Connection – I caught up with my longtime MS Army National Guard friend and current Lee County Supervisor, Barry Parker. As a retired Command Sergeant Major (CSM), Barry is doing great things for Lee County.
|
|
|
|
Kappa Day at the Capitol – My Kappa Alpha Psi brothers visited the Capitol for Kappa Day! These men uphold the values of achievement and service, and I’m always happy to support organizations that make a positive impact.

|
|
|
MS Republican Women & The Links – I was honored to meet with DeSoto County members of The Links and my favorite DeSoto County Republican Women, both of whom are making meaningful contributions to our state.
|
|
|
|
Bob Bakken from DeSoto County News – It was great catching up with Bob Bakken, a journalist dedicated to keeping our community informed.
|
|
|
|
Visitors from Omega Psi Phi – It was a proud moment to welcome my dad, Rodney Sr., and his fraternity brothers from Omega Psi Phi to the Capitol!
|
|
|
|
This month has been full of impactful conversations, legislative progress, and community engagement. I’m honored to serve DeSoto County, and I will continue to fight for the issues that matter most to you.
